On July 31, SPAR Austria celebrated the redesign of the EUROSPAR Supermarket in Fohnsdorf, together with customers. Located in the former Hervis building, the store offers around 2,000m² of retail sales area. It now features a modern design tailored to customer needs, including electronic shelf labels that make shopping and store operations smarter.
Smart renovation
Since the end of February, SPAR Austria has carried out a smart renovation involving several phases to transform the former Hervis store into a EUROSPAR Supermarket. The structural improvements not only maximise sustainable customer service but also enhance shopper experience.
While the building’s structure was unchanged, SPAR Austria redesigned the façade to make the supermarket more open, brighter, and more energy-efficient. A new photovoltaic panel system was installed on the roof, generating electricity to power about 40 households each year (120 kWp). For added convenience, extra-wide parking spaces were created for customers.
Self-checkouts and e-car charging stations
In line with modern and time-saving shopping options, four self-checkouts are installed instore. For those driving electric cars, the supermarket offers two fast-charging stations, each with a capacity of 150 kW. This allows for quick and convenient charging while shopping.
Christoph Holzer, Managing Director of SPAR Styria and South Burgenland, said: “In Fohnsdorf, we rethought grocery shopping and adapted it to people’s needs. The product ranges in the new EUROSPAR Supermarket are arranged efficiently. We have also incorporated design elements, especially in the fruit and vegetable and delicatessen sections, that create a unique marketplace atmosphere while giving customers a clear overview. Local supply has never been so modern, customer-friendly and well thought-out!“
Store Manager Walter Spreitzer added: “Our regular customers will be amazed. The new EUROSPAR Supermarket covers about 2,000m², which is no different, but the shopping experience has completely changed. Customers will find their way around easily. With the combined expertise and friendliness of our 54 employees, we are able to offer Fohnsdorf a shopping experience on a whole new level.“
To mark the opening, SPAR Austria donated €2,000 to Vinzimarkt Judenburg, a social market that helps people in need by offering groceries and household items at significantly reduced prices.
