Ritika capped off India’s campaign at the Asian U19 & U22 Boxing Championships 2025 with a gold in the women’s 80+kg category as the team finished with a total of 27 medals across both age groups on Monday in Bangkok.
The 10-day boxing meet brought together the continent’s best young talent, with India’s U19 squad finishing second overall and the U22 team placing fourth. India had fielded a contingent of 40 boxers – 20 in each age group.
The Indian boxers from the U19 contingent returned with 14 medals – three golds, seven silvers and four bronze, scoring the most in terms of medal count as they finished second behind Uzbekistan (7) in golds.
The Indian U22 boxers clinched one gold, four silvers and eight bronzes. Ritika emerged as India’s lone U22 champion, keeping her composure under pressure to beat Kazakhstan’s Assel Toktassyn in the 80+kg final on the closing day.
In the morning session, Yatri Patel settled for a silver after losing to Khumorabonu Mamajonova of Uzbekistan in the women’s 57kg, while Priya’s spirited fight against Yu Tian of the People’s Republic of China in the 60kg final ended in a narrow 3-2 loss.
Later in the day, Neeraj clinched silver after going down against Shavkatjon Boltaev of Uzbekistan in the men’s 75kg final. Ishan Kataria also secured silver after losing to Khalimjon Mamasoliev of Uzbekistan in the 90+kg gold medal clash.
Earlier this year, the U-15 and U-17 squads had combined for 43 medals at the Asian Championships. India’s U-15 contingent delivered the highest number of golds in the competition – 11 in total.
