The New Formex Essence Space Ghost 41mm Automatic COSC

Formex’s Essence line, introduced in 2018, quickly earned respect as the brand’s versatile, go-anywhere sports watch, combining sharp case architecture, great engineering, and chronometer-certified accuracy. In 2020, the collection took on a cosmic turn with the debut of the Space Rock editions, featuring dials cut from the ancient Muonionalusta meteorite. Over time, these rare cosmic surfaces appeared in variations, from the ice-blue Space Glacier to the salmon-hued Space Gold achieved through rose gold electroplating. For its 25th anniversary, Formex expands the line with the Essence Space Ghost 41mm, a model that introduces a new case size positioned between the existing 39mm and 43mm formats, as well as updates regarding its daily practicality.

The case of the new Formex Essence Space Ghost 41mm is brushed 316L stainless steel with polished chamfered edges, incorporates the brand’s patented Case Suspension System with four functional bezel screws securing an inner titanium grade 2 container mounted on integrated springs. This design improves shock resistance and comfort on the wrist. Measuring 41mm in diameter, 10.6mm in height, and weighing 75 grams without a strap, the watch offers 100m of water resistance, with both front and back sapphire crystals treated with anti-reflective coating. The screw-down crown has been newly engineered to work seamlessly with the Case Suspension System, maintaining its flexible comfort while ensuring a secure seal.

The dial is cut from a 4.5-billion-year-old fragment of the Muonionalusta meteorite, stabilised through a proprietary chemical treatment developed with sister company Cadranor to prevent oxidation while preserving the distinctive Widmanstätten pattern. A galvanic rhodium plating enhances the silvery tone, while blued hands and applied indices, each secured directly into the meteorite via precision-drilled holes, stand out against the crystalline surface. The indices and hands are filled with Super-LumiNova BGW9 for low-light readability. The Formex-styled date window is at 6 o´clock.

Powering the Essence Space Ghost is the COSC-certified Sellita SW200-1 (a clone of the ETA 2824), a proven automatic movement with 28,800 vibrations/hour frequency, and a 41-hour power reserve. Visible through the sapphire caseback, the movement is decorated with a custom skeletonised rotor and features blued screws.

With the Essence Space Ghost 41mm, Formex also debuts its next-generation micro-adjustable butterfly clasp on the stainless steel bracelet. This system allows three settings, 0mm, 3mm, and 6mm, adjusted without opening the clasp, and incorporates redesigned bracelet screws. Strap options include leather, rubber, or nylon, each fitted with a carbon fibre deployant clasp offering 7mm of gradual on-the-fly adjustment. All straps and the bracelet use the brand’s tool-free quick-release system for easy interchangeability.

Limited to 150 pieces annually, the Formex Essence Space Ghost 41mm is priced at EUR 2,090 on leather, nylon, or rubber straps, and EUR 2,190 on stainless steel bracelet. Pre-orders open August 14, 2025, with deliveries beginning mid-September.
