Google adds Flights Deals to AI line-up

Google has unveiled Flight Deals, an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered search tool to help travelers to save money.

In a blog post announcing the launch, the company said travelers describe when, where and how they want to travel, replacing more traditional date, origin and destination formats.

Users will get results based on what they asked for as well as some destinations they might not have considered.

“What makes Flight Deals unique is that it uses Google’s advanced AI to understand the nuances of what you’re looking for and identify matching destinations. Then, it’ll tap into real-time Google Flights data to quickly show you relevant, up-to-date options from hundreds of airlines and booking sites,” said Jade Kessler, product manager of Google Flights, in the blog post.

Flight Deals, which excludes basic economy fares, is currently in beta and will roll out in the United States, Canada and India in the coming days.

Earlier this year, Google announced a series of other AI-powered updates to its travel products, including a price tracking feature for hotels and AI overviews for travel planning.

Google Maps was also updated with “screenshot” capabilities, which uses Gemini to find and highlight places on the map that users have saved in screenshots.

Most recently the company said AI was “positively impacting” every part of the business.

“We see AI powering an expansion in how people are searching for and accessing information, unlocking completely new kinds of questions you can ask Google,” said CEO Sundar Pichai during Google-parent Alphabet’s second quarter earnings. “Overall queries and commercial queries on search continue to grow year over year, and our new AI experiences significantly contributed to this increase in usage.”
