Huawei’s Latest Budget Tablets Are Here with High End Features for Under $500

Huawei has introduced two new additions to its MatePad series, the MatePad Air 12 and MatePad 11.5 S, both featuring high refresh rate displays, slim designs, and running on HarmonyOS 5.

MatePad Air 12

The MatePad Air 12 is equipped with a 12-inch IPS LCD panel offering a 2800 × 1840 pixel resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate. Huawei also offers an optional PaperMatte version of the display, which includes nano-etching to reduce glare and light interference by up to 99%. The display supports 1,000 nits of peak brightness and full DCI-P3 color gamut coverage.

The tablet supports Huawei’s M-Pencil Pro stylus and includes a six-speaker setup. At 5.9mm thick and weighing 555 grams, it is built for portability. Huawei has not disclosed the chipset powering the device. However, it comes with 12GB of RAM and a choice of 256GB or 512GB of internal storage.

The Air 12 features a 50MP rear camera and an 8MP front-facing camera. It is powered by a 10,100 mAh battery and supports 66W fast charging. Wi-Fi 7 is supported, though cellular variants are not available. Color options include Cherry Blossom Pink, Grass Green, Feather Sand White, and Smoke Gray. Pricing starts at $417 for the 256GB variant and $473 for the 512GB model.

MatePad 11.5 S

The MatePad 11.5 S offers a slightly smaller 11.5-inch IPS LCD, with the same 2800 × 1840 resolution and 144Hz refresh rate. It also supports the M-Pencil Pro stylus but comes with a quad-speaker setup rather than six.

Specifications include 8GB or 12GB RAM and 256GB or 512GB storage options. The camera setup includes a 13MP rear sensor and an 8MP front shooter. The device is powered by an 8,800 mAh battery and features 40W fast charging. Like the Air 12, no chipset details or cellular support are confirmed.

Available in Field Green, Feather Sand Purple, Frost Silver, and Deep Space Gray, the 8/128GB variant is priced at $348, while the 12/512GB version will cost $445. Global availability has yet to be announced.
