The Pakistan men’s hockey team has officially withdrawn from the upcoming Hockey Asia Cup 2025, scheduled to be played in Rajgir, Bihar from August 27 to September 7.
The decision comes in the backdrop of escalating political tensions between India and Pakistan, with the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) citing security concerns as the primary reason for pulling out.
The PHF made clear that the safety and dignity of its players could not be compromised. While the Indian government had indicated willingness to facilitate visas, Pakistan’s stance was shaped by wider realities and a firm message: player welfare stands above all else.
This step, although denying the team a marquee tournament, also reinforces Pakistan’s demand for fair and neutral platforms in international sport. Officials have stressed their focus will remain on preparing for upcoming global events, ensuring the team develops in a secure and supportive environment.
Bangladesh has replaced the Men in Green in the event, maintaining the tournament’s eight-team structure. For Pakistan, however, this absence is not seen as retreat but as a statement, underscoring that participation must occur in conditions where athletes can perform freely, without distractions or doubts.
