Munro put on 114 for the first wicket with Alex Hales, who struck 47 from 27, with Knight Riders closing on 231-5 – the seventh-highest score in the tournament’s history.
Kyle Mayers (32) and Andre Fletcher (41) staged their own opening stand of 80, but the pair fell in the space of five balls to spinners Usman Tariq and Akeal Hosein respectively.
Captain Holder struck 44 from 22 balls, but his team were well behind the required run-rate and finished on 219-7.
A win in their opening game puts Knight Riders top of the early table, while Patriots drop one place to third with one win from three matches.
