A new Premier League season but the same old goalkeeping problems persist for Manchester United as a blunder by Altay Bayindir handed Arsenal a 1-0 victory in Sunday’s big clash. Bayindir’s first-half flap was capitalised on by Riccardo Calafiori who scored the only goal of the game.
Chelsea made an underwhelming start to the Premier League season as they were held to a goalless draw by FA Cup and FA Community Shield holders Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge. The match may have been the last in a Palace shirt for Eberechi Eze who was given a standing ovation late on.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s pre-match worries were unfounded as his Nottingham Forest side crushed Brentford with a three-goal first half blitz which saw them secure a 3-1 win on Sunday. Chris Wood scored twice for Forest in the win.
In Monday’s only game, Lukas Nmecha converted a controversial 84th minute penalty on his debut to secure a winning return to the Premier League for Leeds United who beat Everton 1-0 at Elland Road.
3 – Through Leeds and Sunderland, 2025-26 has become just the third season in Premier League history to see as many as two newly promoted sides win on MD1 after 1997-98 (Bolton & Crystal Palace) and 2021-22 (Brentford & Watford). Arrival. pic.twitter.com/GhDGb8x33X

2025-26 Premier League season kicks off
Liverpool and Bournemouth served up a six-goal classic as the 2025-26 Premier League season got underway with the Reds defeating the Cherries 4-2 at Anfield on 15 August.
New signing Hugo Ekitike enjoyed a dream Premier League debut for Liverpool with the opening goal before he assisted for Cody Gakpo to make it 2-0 shortly after half-time. Bournemouth hit back with two goals from Antoine Semenyo – in the 64th and 76th minute.
Forgotten man Federico Chiesa then fired Arne Slot’s men back in front with a late 88th minute strike while Mo Salah secured the 4-2 win with an injury-time goal
The thrilling game was soured by alleged racist abuse directed at Bournemouth’s Semenyo.

Dean Henderson was the hero as he saved multiple Liverpool penalties to lift Crystal Palace to a shootout win in the 2025 FA Community Shield at Wembley on 10 August.
Palace fought back twice against Liverpool to force a 2-2 draw and send the match to penalties where Henderson kept out spot-kicks from Alexis Mac Allister and Harvey Elliott.
Justin Devenny then wrapped up a 3-2 victory for the Eagles in the penalty shootout.
Before kick-off, tributes were paid to former Liverpool forward Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva, following their deaths in a tragic car crash in Spain last month.
However, the minute’s silence was cut short after a small number of Palace fans were heard shouting during the ceremony.
Who won the Premier League last season?
The 2024-25 Premier League season was one to savour for the red half of Merseyside as Liverpool were crowned champions. The Reds clinched a record-equalling 20th top flight title – but only their second in the Premier League era – with a convincing 5-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield back in April.
Liverpool’s success was a dream debut campaign for coach Arne Slot who replaced the legendary German Jurgen Klopp at the helm. Liverpool’s only other Premier League title win came in 2019-20 under Klopp during the COVID-19 pandemic.
