Indian cricket team for Asia Cup 2025

Suryakumar Yadav will captain the 15-member Indian squad for the Asia Cup 2025 cricket tournament in the UAE from September 9 to 28, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Tuesday.

Yadav underwent a sports hernia surgery in his lower right abdomen in Munich, Germany, after finishing as the second-highest scorer in the Indian Premier League.

India’s Test skipper Shubman Gill was named the vice-captain of the team. He last played a T20 match for the Indian cricket team against Sri Lanka in July last year.

Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma, the top two T20 batters in the world rankings, also made the squad.

Jasprit Bumrah and India’s top-ranked T20 pacer Arshdeep Singh will lead the bowling attack. The spin department will be led by world No. 4 Varun Chakravarthy.

India will begin their campaign against hosts UAE on September 10 at the Dubai International Stadium, before facing Pakistan on September 14 in the marquee clash of the group stage.

India, the reigning Asia Cup champions, are the most successful team in Asia Cup history, with eight titles, the last of which came in 2023.

Sri Lanka won the competition when it was last played in the T20 format in 2022, beating Pakistan in the final.
