UNAIDS launches HIV support booklet in Fiji-Xinhua

SUVA, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) — The Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) has launched a new booklet to support people newly diagnosed with HIV in Fiji.

The booklet, titled Power of Life and developed by people living with HIV, aims to reassure those affected that they are not alone and are part of a supportive community.

It has been published in English, Fijian, and Fiji Hindi to ensure accessibility across Fiji’s major language groups, reported Fiji Broadcasting Corporation on Tuesday.

UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassador Ratu Epeli Nailatikau said the booklet encourages people living with HIV to seek support and avoid isolation, which often creates fear and reluctance to seek treatment.

According to UNAIDS, more than 1,000 people are estimated to be living with HIV in Fiji, with a rise in new infections reported in recent years.
