Title fight intensifies between Alessandro Ghiretti and Robert de Haan

The recent doubleheader weekend at the Nürburgring has brought the fight for the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland title to a new high. Alessandro Ghiretti managed to defend the lead with his season winner number three. But Robert de Haan wiped out the Porsche Junior’s advantage with a third and an eleventh place finish.

After ten of 16 races, the Frenchman and the Dutchman collected three victories each and are level on points. Ghiretti holds the upper hand only thanks to a higher number of second-place results (2:1). The next showdown between the title contenders takes place next weekend (22 to 24 August 2025) as part of the DTM support programme at the Sachsenring.

“I’ve only raced Formula 4 on the Sachsenring so far. For my Schumacher CLRT team, it’s completely new turf. That makes thorough preparation in the simulator all the more important,” says Alessandro Ghiretti as he looks ahead to the sixth round of the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup one-make series. In contrast, his rival Robert de Haan and his German squad Proton Huber Competition have a wealth of experience on the tradition-steeped circuit near Chemnitz. Last season, the then-rookie de Haan claimed P15 and P8 on the Sachsenring.

Last year, the 2025 Porsche Junior Theo Oeverhaus celebrated his first-ever Carrera Cup race win at the venue. This success gives the Bonk Motorsport driver from Germany extra motivation as he heads to the eleventh and twelfth races of the season. “The Sachsenring is great fun – a real rollercoaster with some truly demanding corners,” he explains. Currently fourth overall, the 20-year-old is just one point behind Ariel Levi (Team GP Elite). “I definitely want to get back to third place in the standings and close the gap to Alessandro and Robert,” Oeverhaus adds.

Among the ProAm drivers, Michael Schrey (Bonk Motorsport) heads to the Sachsenring as points leader, after scoring maximum points in six of the ten races so far. Equally impressive is Sacha Norden (Proton Huber Competition), the top driver in the Rookies’ classification. The highest-ranked competitor from the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland Talent Pool is Dutchman Kas Haverkort (Team GP Elite), who currently holds sixth place overall.

Talent Pool meets Talent Pool

Talented youngsters share insights: At the Sachsenring, the seven drivers from the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland Talent Pool will meet six counterparts from the Porsche Sports Cup Deutschland Talent Pool. The Sports Cup series serves as the entry-level category into the one-make cup world of the Stuttgart sports car manufacturer. Porsche Deutschland supports young drivers in both programmes: in the Carrera Cup since 2018 and, since last year, also in the Sports Cup. All 13 juniors receive comprehensive training in fitness, nutrition and media, along with professional coaching from former Porsche works driver Wolf Henzler.

“Porsche Deutschland places great emphasis on nurturing talented young racing drivers. Now in its eighth season, the Talent Pool has already produced a long list of successes. Many of today’s professional drivers in the Porsche Motorsport squad, as well as in the works teams of other manufacturers, have built on their experience from the Talent Pool. I am very much looking forward to the Sachsenring gathering of young drivers from our two series. Through this exchange, the Carrera Cup representatives can give their Sports Cup colleagues valuable insights into professional motorsport,” says Thorsten Rückert, Project Manager Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland.

Racing with synthetic fuel

Committed to cutting CO₂ emissions in motorsport, the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland will use the synthetic fuel “DTM Pro Climate” across all eight race weekends in the 2025 season. Partnering with the Carrera Cup, ADAC is also adopting this fuel for the first time for its DTM, ADAC GT Masters, and GT4 Germany series.

The Circuit: Sachsenring

The Sachsenring (“Circuit of Saxony”) is the modern successor to an almost nine-kilometre road course on the edge of Hohenstein-Ernstthal. Inaugurated in 1927, the original circuit occasionally hosted rounds of the Motorcycle World Championship. Today, more than 200,000 spectators flock each year to the MotoGP on the current 3.671-kilometre track, which opened in 1996. One of the most distinctive sections of the modern Sachsenring is the so-called “Omega”, one of only two right-hand corners, where the circuit loops almost 270 degrees around a small group of trees.

Last season, Theo Oeverhaus (Bonk Motorsport) celebrated his first victory in the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland at the Sachsenring. Just one day later, Janne Stiak (Team75 Bernhard) became the youngest race winner in the history of Porsche’s German one-make cup at only 17 years of age.
