Apple is reportedly in early discussions with Google to potentially use its Gemini AI model to revamp Siri, according to a new report.
According to sources cited by Bloomberg, Apple has approached Google’s parent company, Alphabet, about building a custom AI model that could serve as the backbone for a more advanced version of Siri, expected to roll out next year.
The proposal reportedly involves Google training the AI model to operate on Apple’s servers, aligning with the company’s emphasis on privacy and on-device processing.
Other AI Players Also Considered
Apple has not yet made a final decision and is still weighing alternatives, including Anthropic’s Claude and OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which have also been considered as potential partners to enhance Siri’s capabilities.
Sources indicate that Apple remains several weeks away from finalizing whether to proceed with one of these external models or stick with its internally developed AI solutions.
Although Apple has made some internal progress, its generative AI offerings have not gained the same traction as competing models due to lackluster performance and a lack of features when compared to rival AI offerings.
The company has emphasized privacy and local data processing in its AI efforts, a factor that may influence its eventual choice of partner or strategy.
