Greece is set to welcome a new specialized center for dementia, aimed at addressing rising cognitive health challenges. Slated for its official launch in October, the project is an initiative by an alliance of leading philanthropic foundations and the National Bank of Greece.
Pledging government support, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis hailed the initiative, calling dementia “a public health problem which will only get worse unless science works its miracle.”
The center aims to bring together top scientists from Greece and abroad, including distinguished diaspora researchers, with frontline practitioners. Its mission includes advancing early diagnosis, prevention and treatment, introducing new pharmaceutical protocols, standardizing guidelines, ensuring oversight and training medical staff and caregivers.
“We often allow people to reach an advanced stage before intervening. Then it’s too late,” said a project organizer.
