MUNICH (Germany) – Two schools of thought will come to a head at FIBA EuroBasket 2025: is it better to shine in warmups, or do those results mean nothing once the real games begin?
Three teams finished their exhibition campaigns with perfect records, including title front-runners Serbia and France, who hope their winning streaks are signs of good things to come. Serbia rolled through their friendlies with a flawless 7-0 mark, while France also impressed with five wins in five.
The only other unbeaten side this summer was Finland, who won all four test games, powered by superstar forward Lauri Markkanen.
Also hopeful that good summer prep results mean a good EuroBasket are Lithuania and Germany, who both only dropped one game along the way. Lithuania registered a 6-1 record with a defeat against Türkiye while Germany fell only to Serbia for a 5-1 mark.

At the other end of the spectrum are reigning champions Spain as well as 2017 winners Slovenia and Georgia, who hope they have gotten all their losses out of the way before EuroBasket tips off.
Spanish playcaller Sergio Scariolo has seen a barrage of injuries limit his team all summer. Their campaign started off with a loss to Portugal before beating Czechia two days later. Those games were followed by back-to-back, home-and-away losses to France and Germany for a 1-5 mark.
Slovenia also finished their preparations with a 1-5 record. The Balkan side dropped their first four games – including seeing Luka Doncic go down with an injury scare. Doncic rebounded with a big game for at least the feeling of winning against Great Britain before losing the final game by 34 points at Serbia.

Georgia meanwhile registered the worst record of the preparations with a 0-6 mark – only Cyprus at 0-2 did not manage a win. Aleksandar Dzikic’s team lost two games behind closed doors to Israel and Estonia in Latvia before losses against Lithuania and Poland. Georgia finished their campaign with back-to-back defeats against Czechia.
When it’s all said and done, we won’t know what impact the preparations had on the teams.
But two groupings of teams definitely have two very different ways of looking at the warmups as we near tip-off at FIBA EuroBasket 2025.
