Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is scheduled for release on November 14, 2025. The game will launch on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC through Battle.net and Steam, as well as Xbox Cloud Gaming. It will also support Xbox Play Anywhere and will be available on day one with Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. The title is being developed by Treyarch and Raven Software.
Development on Black Ops 7 started at the same time as Black Ops 6. Associate Creative Director Miles Leslie said both projects were greenlit together and began in parallel, though each had a different production ramp-up. Narrative Producer Natalie Pohorski added that features first introduced in Black Ops 6 were carried over into Black Ops 7, allowing both titles to connect in story and mechanics. This makes the game very different from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, which had a short development cycle after being expanded from planned DLC into a full release.
The campaign takes place in 2035, following the events of Black Ops 2 and Black Ops 6. Raul Menendez, once thought dead, has returned with a plan to weaponize fear. The Guild, which appeared in Black Ops 6 as a crime syndicate in Avalon during the 1990s, has grown into a powerful global tech corporation and now positions itself as a major force in the new world order. The story follows David “Section” Mason, who leads a JSOC team on a mission to Avalon in the Mediterranean, where they uncover a plot that threatens both world stability and Mason’s past.
Mason is voiced by Milo Ventimiglia, with Mike Harper voiced by Michael Rooker, Eric Samuels by John Eric Bentley, Leilani “50/50” Topuola by Frankie Adams, and Emma Kagan by Kiernan Shipka. Topuola has undergone bionic augmentation, and Kagan is the CEO of The Guild. Troy Marshall, the lead character in Black Ops 6, also appears, shown meeting Mason at Frank Woods’ tombstone.
Pohorski described Black Ops 7 as Mason’s story, with his past decisions resurfacing throughout the missions. The campaign includes varied locations such as Japan, Alaska, and Avalon, and some sequences blur the line between memory and hallucination, expanding on ideas seen in Black Ops 6’s “Separation Anxiety.”
For the first time in the series, the campaign can be played alone or cooperatively with up to four players. Progression ties into a global system that spans across the campaign, multiplayer, and Zombies, and campaign-exclusive camos are included for the first time. A twelfth mission called Endgame unlocks after the credits, offering a 32-player PvE experience in Avalon. Players can choose operators beyond the main cast, build loadouts, and level their C.O.M.B.A.T. rating up to 60. If squads are eliminated, the rating resets.
Esports betting on Call of Duty has grown in 2025. The share of wagers on Call of Duty doubled worldwide from 1.7 percent to 2.9 percent of all esports bets. In North America, the series accounted for 12.2% of esports bets, compared to Valorant’s 11.5%, placing it third overall. OpTic Texas, after winning CDL Worlds 2025 and EWC 2025, has become a betting favorite as attention turns toward Black Ops 7’s competitive season.
The game is built around four themes: “Embrace the Madness,” “Cutting-Edge 2035 Combat,” “Experience Matters,” and “Zombies Unchained.” Multiplayer launches with 16 maps for 6v6 matches and two maps for 20v20 play. Locations include Alaska, Avalon, Japan, and the Australian Outback, with reimagined versions of Black Ops 2 maps Raid, Express, and Hijacked. A new 20v20 mode called Skirmish will debut at launch.
Movement mechanics expand with wall jumps for evasion, combat rolls to reduce fall damage, and the ability to move while mounted. Tactical sprint is no longer the default but can be unlocked with perks.
At launch, 30 weapons will be available: six assault rifles, three marksman rifles, six SMGs, three sniper rifles, two LMGs, three shotguns, two launchers, three pistols, and two melee weapons. Confirmed weapons include the Peacekeeper MK1, M8A1 rifle, Puma SMG, VS Recon sniper, Echo 12 shotgun, Orion pistol, Shock Baton melee, and an energy-based launcher.
Weapons feature prestige progression with 50 levels and unique rewards like attachments, charms, and camos. Master prestige is unlocked at level 250 with an exclusive camo.
The Overclock system introduces two upgrade options for every field upgrade, scorestreak, and piece of equipment. For example, Active Camo can be upgraded to recharge faster or to recloak after firing, though only one can be chosen. New scorestreaks include the D.A.W.G. mini-tank, Gravemaker sniper streak, agile robots, and Hunter Killer drones.
Players can now share weapon builds directly with friends or use build codes to copy loadouts.
Zombies includes the largest round-based map in the series, new Survival maps for shorter sessions, and Dead Ops Arcade 4. The story continues in the Dark Aether and brings back the Black Ops 6 crew, along with alternate versions of Richtofen, Nikolai, Takeo, and Dempsey. The main map has six connected zones, including Farm, which appears nearly the same as it did in Black Ops 2. Rather than a looping bus, players use the Wonder Vehicle, an armored truck that acts as a fifth character, to travel between areas.
Progression carries across all modes, with daily and weekly challenges spanning multiplayer, Zombies, and the campaign. Items such as XP tokens and gobble gums from Black Ops 6 will transfer to Black Ops 7. Operators, weapons, and skins from Black Ops 6 will also carry forward in Season 1, though some camos and scorestreaks will not due to the shift from the 1990s to 2035.
Pre-release events include a Zombies showcase in September, Call of Duty: Next on September 30 with Warzone integration, an early access beta from October 2–4, and an open beta from October 5–8. At launch, Ricochet anti-cheat will require secure boot and TPM 2.0. Black Ops 7 will also feature the most mastery camos in series history, including new campaign-exclusive unlocks.
