HANOI, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) — Dengue fever cases in Vietnam’s two largest cities, Ho Chi Minh City and the capital Hanoi, have sharply increased in recent weeks.
In southern Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City, more than 2,500 new cases were reported from Aug. 11 to Aug. 17, marking a 38 percent rise compared to the average of the previous four weeks, the local media VnExpress reported Tuesday.
Ho Chi Minh City has recorded over 26,000 cases so far this year, up 220 percent from the same period in 2024, with 15 deaths reported, according to data from the city’s Center for Disease Control.
Meanwhile, the capital Hanoi reported 145 new cases from Aug. 15 to Aug. 22, bringing the number of affected wards and communes to 59, with six active outbreak clusters, Vietnam News Agency reported recently.
Health authorities have launched intensified mosquito control campaigns and urged the public to eliminate breeding grounds, and were closely monitoring the risk of chikungunya, although no cases have been detected so far this year, the report noted. ■
