Akal Takht jathedar expresses concern over Kartarpur Sahib flooding, urges joint action | Chandigarh News

Amritsar: The officiating jathedar of Akal Takht, Giani Kuldip Singh Gargaj, directed the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (PSGPC) to send a detailed report on damage caused to the building of Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, Kartarpur Sahib, Pakistan to Akal Takht secretariat.In a statement here on Wednesday , he directed PSGPC to work with the Pakistan Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) to assess damage caused to the building of Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, Kartarpur Sahib, Pakistan and send a detailed report through the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) to its secretariat. He also directed SGPC to coordinate with PSGPC and ETPB to collect and forward a complete report of the damage.Expressing concern over floodwaters from the Ravi entering Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, which is just 4.5km from Dera Baba Nanak integrated check post (ICP) in Gurdaspur district, Gargaj said according to the information received, several feet of water entered not only the main darbar, but the entire complex of the shrine. Gargaj called upon both the India and Pakistan govts to take joint steps and maintain coordination so that in future, floodwaters never again reach Gurdwara Darbar Sahib. He once again appealed to the govt to reopen the Kartarpur corridor at the earliest.“This will help strengthen mutual harmony and allow Sikh devotees from India to visit Kartarpur Sahib, witness the present condition of the gurdwara, and begin the necessary kar sewa (voluntary service),” he said.
