Bhutan to host first-ever fashion week

Bhutan is preparing to step onto the global fashion stage with its first-ever fashion week, scheduled from October 27 to November 1, 2025, promising to be more than just a runway showcase.

Hosted by the Department of Media, Creative Industry and Intellectual Property (DoMCIIP) in collaboration with the Royal Textile Academy, the event will highlight Bhutanese artistry in ways not seen before.

According to organisers, the fashion week is being positioned as a celebration of Bhutan’s rich cultural heritage expressed through textiles, designs, and creative innovation.

The week aims to “bring together the Bhutanese behind the handlooms, sketches and needles, to mention a few, who will flaunt their work to not just the locals, but the international names and brands that have inspired millions around the world.”

The official event website currently lists 11 designers who will participate, though the detailed schedule has yet to be released. Alongside the fashion week, Thimphu Design Week 2025 has also been announced, serving as a broader platform for creative exchange in October next year.

At the helm of Bhutan Fashion Week is Director Kelly Dorji, whose leadership is guiding the initiative. Under his direction, the organising team says it is “putting in every effort to bring the most exciting fashion shows the country has ever seen.”

With its mix of heritage weaves, modern silhouettes, and an ambition to connect Bhutanese talent with international audiences, the inaugural Bhutan Fashion Week marks a defining moment for the Himalayan kingdom’s creative industry.
