European truck and bus manufacturers are at the forefront of the green transition, steadily expanding their portfolio of cutting-edge zero-emission vehicles. These vehicles are not just prototypes or visions of the future but are increasingly available today, ready to transform road transport across Europe.
To showcase this progress, the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) has compiled the latest overview of zero-emission trucks and buses that are already on the market or scheduled for launch in the near future. This annual update highlights the pace of innovation across the industry:
- Trucks: At least 45 different zero-emission truck models are now available, with four new models entering series production compared to last year. These vehicles span a broad spectrum of applications, from urban and regional delivery to long-haul heavy-duty trucks.
- Buses: At least 20 zero-emission bus models are available today, with three new additions in series production since last year. They provide clean and quiet mobility solutions for cities, regions, and increasingly interurban and long-distance travel.
This growing product offering underscores the industry’s strong commitment to decarbonising road transport. But while manufacturers are delivering, the swift adoption of zero-emission vehicles is still being held back. The lack of essential enabling conditions, including a dense network of charging and refuelling stations, supportive policies and cost-parity measures that level the playing field for zero-emission vehicles, continue to limit their market adoption.
For Europe to achieve its climate goals, it is vital that the product readiness of manufacturers is matched by the right infrastructure, fleet renewal investments and policy support.
