The CAS confirmed that Ms. Popova committed an Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV) for the use of a prohibited substance or method, following unexplained abnormalities detected in her Athlete Biological Passport (ABP) in 2016 and 2022.
As a result, the CAS confirmed the sanction imposed by the UCI Anti-Doping Tribunal: a four-year period of ineligibility running from 20 September 2024 to 19 September 2028, in accordance with the World Anti-Doping Code and the UCI Anti-Doping Rules.
The full CAS award will be published in due course on the UCI website.
The ITA manages the Athlete Biological Passport program on behalf of the UCI, in collaboration with the Athlete Passport Management Unit (APMU) of Lausanne, which is associated with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) accredited Laboratory of Lausanne. While the UCI has delegated its anti-doping programme to the ITA, it retains responsibility for results management and the prosecution of anti-doping rule violations.
The ITA will not further comment on the matter.
