RAWALPINDI: Adiala Jail authorities on Saturday submitted a detailed report to the Special Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC), Rawalpindi, regarding the medical examination of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, the medical facilities provided to him and the resources available in the jail hospital.
The report was filed in response to a petition by Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khanum, seeking the formation of a medical board for his complete medical examination.
During the hearing, the Adiala Jail superintendent submitted the report covering the period from the beginning of Imran Khan’s imprisonment to date, referring to the medical book prepared by the medical officer on August 27, 2025. The court adjourned the hearing till Wednesday. According to the report, the 72-year-old convicted prisoner, Imran Ahmed Khan Niazi, son of Ikramullah Khan Niazi, has been examined from time to time by specialists, including ENT, eye, surgeon, neurosurgeon and orthopaedic surgeon from Teaching Hospital Rawalpindi and Islamabad. The report stated that Khan was examined several times whenever consultants recommended treatment, and the jail hospital provided the prescribed care.
Referring to the details of the facilities available in the jail hospital, the report stated that the jail has an ECG machine, ultrasound machine, dental unit, baseline lab, cardiac monitor, oxygen cylinder and pulse oximeter and they are fully functional. The report further stated that consultants from teaching hospitals namely Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology Rawalpindi, Holy Family Hospital Rawalpindi, Benazir Bhutto Hospital Rawalpindi, District Headquarters Hospital Rawalpindi, Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Rawalpindi and Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) visit Central Jail Rawalpindi as per the weekly schedule, while the medical officer of the jail also inspects it as per the requirement.
The report states about the health condition of the former chairman till August 27 of this month that the former chairman’s blood pressure was 120/70mmHg, pulse was 49/minute.
The petition filed by Aleema Khanum stated that the former PTI chairman is complaining of pressure and blurred vision in his eyes and a special medical board should be formed for an immediate complete medical check-up.
The petition said there is no trust in the doctors under the current federal and provincial governments, hence the personal physicians of the former chairman should be included in the board. The names of Dr. Faisal Sultan of Shaukat Khanum and Professor Fawad Ahmed Khan of Rawalpindi Medical University have also been suggested.
