Calling all the Monsters: Lady Gaga will turn the MTV Video Music Awards stage into her own Mayhem Ball as a performer at the fete, joining a star-studded lineup that includes previously announced musicians Doja Cat, Mariah Carey, Sabrina Carpenter, Jelly Roll, Post Malone, Tate McRae and J Balvin.
“There will be magic in the air at the 2025 #VMAs because @LADYGAGA IS PERFORMING! 🪄” the awards ceremony wrote on Instagram in a joint post with CBS, who is hosting the show. “You won’t want to miss her return, September 7 on @cbstv and @paramountplus!”
MTV added on X: “Need all of my fellow Little Monsters to COME TO THE FRONT! Why, you ask?! Oh, because MOTHER MONSTER HERSELF IS PERFORMING AT THE 2025 #VMAs!!!! @ladygaga
Don’t miss a second of all the MAYHEM that will be caused – September 7th at 8 pm ET on CBS & @paramountplus 🖤”
The performance will mark her first in five years. During the 2020 VMAs, the multi-Grammy-winning artist shared the stage with Ariana Grande to perform their chart-topping dance-pop track “Rain on Me.”
This year, the Oscar winner and multi-hyphenate maintains her lead in nominations, with 12. The Mayhem pop superstar is followed by Bruno Mars (11), Kendrick Lamar (10), Carpenter (9), Rosé (8), Grande and The Weekend (7 each), Billie Eilish and McRae (6 each), Charli XCX (5) and Bad Bunny, Doechii, Ed Sheeran and Miley Cyrus (with four each).
Gaga is currently touring her seventh album with the Mayhem Ball Tour, which kicked off mid-July in Las Vegas and will stop off in Miami, New York City, Toronto and Chicago before the singer-songwriter hops the pond to cities like London, Milan, Barcelona and others. The artist has also been teasing a new single, “The Dead Dance,” in the leadup to her much-awaited cameo in Wednesday Season 2, the second part of which will debut concurrently with the track Sept. 3.
Airing live from New York’s UBS Arena on Sept. 7 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT, the VMAs will be hosted by LL Cool J.
