Albany residents are choosing to shop, eat and do business locally according to recent data, which is keeping more money circulating within the community and strengthening the local economy.

According to the latest Spendmapp figures, more than half of all spending in Albany has remained local with $71.3 million spent in local businesses throughout November.

This highlights a clear preference towards supporting homegrown retailers, and reinforcing the value the community places on local jobs, local relationships and a thriving local economy.

Online spending has also eased, with fewer dollars leaving the region and more flowing through Albany, reflecting growing community confidence and a strong preference for local connection.

Spending increased across a range of everyday and festive categories during November, including dining and entertainment, clothing and department stores, and speciality retail.

The trend reflects Albany’s strong community spirit and the collective impact of small, everyday decisions.

Chief Executive Officer Andrew Sharpe said these figures were encouraging as the city heads into the busy Christmas trading period.

“These numbers show that people are making a conscious choice to support local businesses, and that choice really matters,” Mr Sharpe said.

“When money is spent locally, it doesn’t just stop at the counter. It helps pay local wages, supports local suppliers and keeps our main streets vibrant and active.

“Every time someone chooses to shop locally instead of online, they’re making an investment in Albany. Those choices add up, and the data shows they’re making a real difference.”

Previous reports have shown that Albany has a strong track record of keeping spending and jobs within the region, and the latest November figures suggest that mindset is continuing.

With Christmas just around the corner, residents are encouraged to keep shopping local – whether buying gifts, booking services or catching up with friends over a meal.

Every local purchase helps keep money in local pockets and plays a role in strengthening the Albany community, now and into the future.
