The Wiener Konzerthaus has announced a last-minute change to its season-opening programme tonight, as violinist Janine Jansen is reportedly ill and unable to perform.
In her place, violinist Alena Baeva will be performing the Prokofiev Violin Concerto no.1 with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and conductor Klaus Mäkelä. The orchestra will also perform Mozart’s ‘Paris Symphony’ no.31 in D Major and Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra.
Despite the frantic schedule, Baeva expressed her enthusiasm for the oppurtunity:
‘This morning I was rehearsing in Wroclaw on gut strings and 430hz with Il Giardino Armonico for our concert in Warsaw on the 5th of September! But I just can’t say no to this kind of question,
’I jumped in the taxi to the airport straight from rehearsal, changed strings in the car and in the airport, and took two flights to reach Vienna in time for the soundcheck with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and Klaus Mäkelä at the Wiener Konzerthaus.
’It is slightly surreal, playing with one total dream group in the morning and another in the evening!’
