On a day of surprise defeats, Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain endured a disappointing return to the ring with a second-round exit at the World Boxing Championships 2025 in Liverpool, England, on Saturday (September 6).
Competing in the women’s 75kg division, Borgohain, in her first international outing since Paris 2024, went down 5-0 by unanimous decision to Türkiye’s Busra Isildar after receiving a first-round bye.
Germany’s Paris 2024 Olympian Magomed Schachidov also made an early exit, losing 5-0 to Spain’s Frank Martinez in the men’s 70kg division. But there was better news for local favourite Odel Kamara, who defeated Kosovo’s Shpetim Bajoku 5-0 in the same weight category to advance to the next round.
