“This partnership allows Siemens to expand the consistent, reproducible and high-quality generation of verified EPDs”, said Eva Riesenhuber, Global Head of Sustainability at Siemens. “It is a proof-point how large-scale integration of industrial digitalization supports environmental compliance and shows our leadership position in scaling sustainability impact.”

“By making environmental transparency scalable and efficient, Siemens is helping shape a more sustainable industrial future. We’re proud to support Siemens in setting a new benchmark for digitalized, high-quality EPD generation. This ensures that Siemens’ EPDs meet the highest standards of transparency and credibility,” added Håkon Hauan, Managing Director, EPD-Global.

An environmental product declaration (EPD) is essentially an “environmental factsheet” for a product providing information about the impact it has on the environment from factors like CO₂ emissions, energy and resource consumption, and waste generation. By providing transparency and comparability, EPDs help customers make informed purchasing decisions. EPDs are already mandatory in a few fields like the construction industry, but as sustainability regulations tighten globally, they are becoming essential in many markets.

Siemens currently provides ISO-compliant self-declared EPDs for more than 50 percent of its product portfolio. With the new certification of its internal EPD creation process, Siemens will significantly increase the number of its independently verified EPDs as it aims to achieve 100 percent EPD coverage by 2030. While not all EPDs require third-party verification, the new certification process enables Siemens to efficiently provide independently verified EPDs at scale.
