Loh Kean Yew marched on to badminton‘s Hong Kong Open quarter-finals with a straight sets win over Rasmus Gemke of Denmark on Thursday (11 September).
After cruising past Brian Yang in the first round in 33 minutes, Loh made relative quick work of Gemke in 38 minutes, going through 21-16, 21-18. He will face Christo Popov – who Loh is 3-3 in head-to-heads against the Frenchman – in the next round.
Loh improved to 4-0 against Gemke for his career but was made to work for it in the second game.
The Singaporean trailed 16-12 before he won four straight points to even the score. Gemke pulled away again to go up 18-16, but Loh dug deep to take the next five points to secure passage to the last eight.
