Olympic champions Eliud Kipchoge and Sifan Hassan will make their New York City Marathon debuts on 2 November.
It will be the first time that the Kenyan double Olympic gold medallist has run three marathons in a single season.
Kipchoge finished sixth at the London Marathon in April, and in August placed ninth in Sydney, where he was also racing for the first time.
“The thought of running in New York has always lived in my heart,” said Kipchoge, 40, in a press statement about his long-awaited debut in New York, which will complete his set of appearances across all seven global World Marathon Majors.
“I am looking forward to experiencing it all, to hearing the crowds, to meeting the people there, and leaving a long-lasting footprint in the running community.”
The 2023 Berlin Marathon was Kipchoge’s most recent triumph, and after his first DNF at Paris 2024 Olympics, he declared that he is no longer in pursuit of victories.
His NN Running Team teammate, Abdi Nageeye of the Netherlands, will also return to defend his title.
