Arshad Nadeem focuses on self over rivals at World Athletics Championships 2025

Arshad Nadeem has declared that he is ready for the World Athletics Championships 2025 in Tokyo, saying he will approach in the men’s javelin throw event will be focussed on his own performance.

“I always aim to do my best in every event and I am going to Tokyo with the same mission with high hopes. The rest is on God,” the Paris 2024 Olympic gold medallist was quoted saying by The Dawn.

The men’s javelin qualification is scheduled for September 17 at the Japan National Stadium, with the final on the following day. It will mark the first Neeraj Chopra vs Arshad Nadeem clash since the Paris 2024 final, where the Pakistani star threw a record 92.97m to clinch gold.

“My competition is always against Arshad Nadeem. I have my competitions against myself. I am in good shape and well prepared for the contest in Tokyo,” Arshad said, brushing aside his rivalry with the Indian ace.

“Most of the other main rivals in Tokyo are the same who were at the Paris Olympics, so it will be a good contest,” he added.

Alongside Neeraj Chopra and Nadeem, the javelin field in Tokyo will feature Germany’s Julian Weber, Grenada’s two-time world champion Anderson Peters, Czech star Jakub Vadlejch and former Olympic champion Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago.

Since Paris, Nadeem has competed only once, winning the Asian Athletics Championships title in Gumi, Republic of Korea.

Meanwhile, Neeraj Chopra, the reigning world champion, has enjoyed a strong season, highlighted by a national record 90.23m in Doha and victories in Paris, Ostrava and Bengaluru.
