The World Wrestling Championships 2025 will begin in Zagreb, Croatia, on September 13 and run till September 21.

A total of 30 gold medals will be on the line across men’s freestyle, women’s freestyle and Greco-Roman events. India will field a full-strength squad with one entry in each weight category.

The spotlight, however, will be on Paris 2024 bronze medallist Aman Sehrawat (men’s 57kg freestyle) and Antim Panghal (women’s 53kg), a 2023 Worlds bronze medallist.

Aman, the youngest Indian to win an individual Olympic medal, made a strong return after Paris 2024 to win bronze at the Ulaanbaatar Ranking Series in Mongolia and gold at the Yasar Dogu and Vehbi Emre & Hamit Kaplan International meet in Turkiye.

Two-time U20 world champion Antim Panghal bounced back from her underwhelming Olympic campaign with an Asian bronze and gold medal at the Budapest Ranking Series this season.

Other notable names in the Indian squad include Udit Gulia, an Asian silver-medallist, Sujeet Kalkal, competing in Bajrang Punia’s 65kg category and Tokyo 2020 semi-finalist Deepak Punia, a 2019 Worlds silver-medallist.

Among Indian women wrestlers, Asian champion Manisha Bhanwala (62kg), U20 world champion Tapasya Gahlawat (57kg) and two-time U20 world medallist Priya Malik (76kg) will lead the challenge.

At the 2024 edition, India returned with one medal, Mansi Ahlawat won bronze in the women’s 59kg. At the 2023 edition, Indian wrestlers competed under the United World Wrestling (UWW) flag.
