World Athletics Championships 2025 men’s marathon route and schedule
The race will begin and end at the Japan National Stadium, marking the first time since Moscow 2013 that a World Championships marathon will both begin and end at the event’s main host stadium.
Beijing 2015 was the last time a marathon course ended in the main stadium, while each of the courses in 2017 (London), 2019 (Doha), 2022 (Oregon), and 2023 (Budapest) started and ended outside the main stadium.
After one and a quarter laps of the National Stadium, marathoners will head north to Shinjuku before turning east and heading towards the Tokyo Dome. They then turn southwards to enter a looped circuit near the Imperial Palace taking in Akihabara and Ginza, which they will do two laps of before returning north then westwards in the reverse direction towards the National Stadium.
As of 11 September, the men’s marathon is expected to begin at 7:30am Japan Standard Time on Monday 15 September (22:30 UTC Sunday 14 September). The start time is subject to further modification depending on weather conditions.
