Olympian Jaismine Lamboria (women’s 57kg), Minakshi Hooda (women’s 48kg) and Nupur Sheoran (women’s 80kg) won their respective semi-finals to keep India on the hunt for multiple gold medals at the World Boxing Championships 2025 in Liverpool.
Minakshi Hooda defeated Altantsetseg Lutsaikhan of Mongolia 5-0, Jaismine Lamboria beat Paris Olympian Omailyn Carolina Alcala Cegovia of Venezuela by the same scoreline and Nupur Sheoran proved too good for Seyma Duztas of Turkiye.
In the women’s 48kg semi-finals, Minakshi did not allow two-time Asian bronze medallist Lutsaikhan to find her rhythm in any of the three rounds as she completely dominated the bout to earn a unanimous decision win.
It was a similar story in the other two semi-finals as both Jaismine and Nupur rarely looked under pressure throughout their bouts.
In the final on Saturday night, Jaismine will now face Paris Olympic silver medallist Julia Szeremeta of Poland, while Nupur will take on another Polish boxer, Agata Kaczmarska, who is a multiple-time European championships medallist.
Tokyo Olympian Pooja Rani (women’s 80kg) is the fourth Indian boxer to reach the semi-finals and will face Emily Asquith of England later in the day.
India fielded a 20-member contingent at the inaugural World Championships.
Commonwealth Games champion Nikhat Zareen crashed out of the World Championships on Wednesday, while Tokyo 2020 Olympic bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain endured a disappointing outing with a second-round exit in the women’s 75kg.
None of the Indian male boxers managed to qualify for the medal matches with Jadumani Singh Mandengbam (men’s 50kg) becoming the last to be ousted following a 4-0 loss against former world champion Sanzhar Tashkenbay of Kazakhstan on Friday.
