‘Act of utter shame’: AAP takes on BJP over Indian vs Pakistan Asia Cup cricket match

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday protested against the upcoming India-Pakistan Asia Cup fixture and accused the Centre of “humiliating the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack”.

As part of the protest, AAP volunteers burnt an effigy of a Pakistani cricketer at the party headquarters and raised “Pakistan Murdabad” slogans.

Taking to X, AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal said, “Why does the Prime Minister feel the need to hold a cricket match with Pakistan. The entire nation is saying this match should not take place. Then why is it being organised? Is this also being done under Trump’s pressure? How much more will the Prime Minister bend before Trump?”

‘Boycott the match’

Addressing the media, AAP Delhi president Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “The Aam Aadmi Party completely opposes the cricket match that is to be played tomorrow [Sunday] between India and Pakistan. This is the same Pakistan that only a few days ago entered Kashmir, murdered dozens of our Indians, and widowed our mothers and sisters. Yet, the BJP government sitting at the Centre is preparing to play cricket with these very Pakistanis. This is an act of utter shame.”

He appealed to everyone to boycott the match.

However, the Delhi BJP did not respond to AAP’s allegations.
