Seeman welcomes CM’s recommendation for Bharat Ratna to musician Ilaiyaraaja

Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) chief Seeman on Sunday (September 14, 2025) welcomed Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s recommendation to the Centre to confer the Bharat Ratna on musician Ilaiyaraaja.

Speaking to the media in Coimbatore, Mr. Seeman said the conferment of the nation’s highest civilian honour on Mr. Ilaiyaraaja was a fitting recognition, as the composer had reached numerous milestones in his field.

He added that he was the first to approach the musician to organise a felicitation event, but Ilaiyaraaja declined, stating it is being conducted by the State government. “I will nonetheless arrange a felicitation event soon,” Mr. Seeman said.

Commenting on the large turnout at TVK president Vijay’s first State-wide political tour in Tiruchi on Saturday (September 13, 2025), Mr. Seeman observed that it was common for audience to be drawn to see film stars in person. He noted that appearances by actors such as Rajinikanth or Ajith Kumar will attract even larger crowds. He emphasised that public support was measured by ideology rather than numbers.

On the caste census, Seeman questioned the Tamil Nadu government’s hesitation to conduct it, noting that its ally, the Congress-ruled Karnataka, was keen to undertake the exercise.

Reaffirming NTK’s electoral strategy, he stated that the party will contest independently, without forming alliances with national or Dravidian parties.
