Emmys host Nate Bargatze has hatched a diabolical — yet altruistic — plot to keep speeches to their 45-second limit, outlining the scheme to the Los Angeles Times ahead of Sunday.
Start with $100,000. That’s the donation he’s giving to the Boys & Girls Club of America, the voluntary youth development organization focused on after-school programs.
But wait — for every 1 second over the limit, subtract $1,000.
“I’m hoping that is such an outside-of-the-system kind of thinking. Because I’ve got to give this money, so how much is it going to be? Is it going to be $10,000 because everybody went over? Is it gonna be way more? I hope everybody just has fun, and I think that’s a running thing — a tally that could be fun, and I don’t want to be disrespectful,” he said.
The money can be restored — for every second under the limit, he’ll add $1,000 back on.
The accountability? “And we got Boys & Girls Club kids coming out there. So if everybody’s going over, you’re gonna have to look at these kids,” he said.
