Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu registered her second successive straight-game victory at the China Masters 2025 badminton tournament to march into the quarter-finals on Thursday.
World No. 14 PV Sindhu beat Thailand’s Pornpawee Chochuwong, sixth in the women’s singles badminton rankings, 21-15, 21-15 in 41 minutes.
Up against the sixth-seeded Pornpawee Chochuwong at the Shenzhen Arena in the People’s Republic of China, PV Sindhu dominated from the first game, leading 11-4 at the interval before comfortably closing it out.
The second game saw Pornpawee Chochuwong put up more of a fight as she narrowly led 11-10 at the interval.
However, PV Sindhu seized control of the match after the interval as she won 11 of the next 15 points to emerge victorious and advance to the quarter-finals.
This was Sindhu’s seventh win in 12 meetings against Pornpawee Chochuwong. She will face Olympic gold medallist and world No. 1 An Se-young of the Republic of Korea in the quarters.
Sindhu trails An Se-young 7-0 in their head-to-head records. The two last met at the All England Open 2024.
Meanwhile, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty also produced a clinical display to sail into the men’s doubles quarter-finals at the BWF Super 750 tournament.
World No. 7 Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty beat Chinese Taipei’s Chiu Hsiang-chieh and Wang Chi-lin, 21st in the men’s doubles badminton rankings, 21-13, 21-12, in 33 minutes.
This was their second win in as many encounters against the Chinese Taipei pair. The Indian badminton players will face off against China’s Ren Xiangyu and Hao Nan Xie in the quarters.
