The Apple iPhone 17 is officially available, and it won’t be long before you start seeing other folks with the new model. If you’re interested in getting one for yourself, the device is mostly backordered, with fulfillment dates pushed out anywhere from late September to mid-October. The sooner you order, the better, so I’ve broken down how to preorder the iPhone 17 below.
Whether you’re new to the Apple ecosystem or a longtime iOS user, the smartphone promises a lot of enticing features that can make a big difference in your usage. You can even save money on one by sending in an old device to trade in. Outdated iPhones and smartphones from other brands can knock up to $830 off your total at checkout.

How to preorder the Apple iPhone 17
The Apple iPhone 17 is officially out, but it’s only up for back order at most retailers due to demand. Preorders are now being fulfilled in late September or early October, depending on the retailer. For the best deals, where you can even get the phone for free via trade-in, we recommend also looking at the carrier options from T-Mobile, Verizon, and AT&T.

What’s new in the Apple iPhone 17?
The new iPhone brings more than just an array of new colors to choose from. Here are some of the features that set the 17 apart from earlier generations:
- 6.3-inch display: Along with a marginally larger size, the iPhone 17 has a .2-inch display increase compared to the 16, giving users more room for browsing, taking photos, and more.
- Always-On display: Rather than defaulting to a black screen when not in use, the iPhone 17 adopted the handy Always-On display feature. This keeps information like message notifications and the current time more readily available.
- Ceramic Shield 2: The new Ceramic Shield 2 boasts more scratch resistance than previous models. Though I still recommend opting for a screen protector, this means the front of the iPhone 17 is more durable than ever.
- A better camera all-around: The feature that took the spotlight at Apple’s iPhone 17 reveal was its new camera. It’s now built with an 18 megapixel front camera, Center Stage photo framing, automatic video stabilization, dual capture, and more.
- A19 chip: A new generation iPhone means a new chip, and the new A19 boasts stronger performance than ever.
