‘Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl’ will hit theaters on Oct. 3, the same day her upcoming album debuts
Taylor Swift is coming back to the silver screen.
Taylor Swift isn’t just releasing an album in October. She’s releasing a movie, too.
Swift’s newest film, “Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl,” will have a limited theatrical release on Oct. 3-5, hitting theaters on the same day as her next album, “The Life of a Showgirl.” The film also features the world premiere of Swift’s music video for “The Fate of Ophelia.”
The film is 89 minutes long, per Deadline, and will see Swift again partner up with AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc. (AMC) The movie-theater chain distributed the immensely popular 2023 release of “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour,” which raked in more than $261 million globally to become the highest-grossing concert movie of all time.
Buoyed by the announcement of the new Taylor Swift project, AMC shares were up 5.6% in afternoon trading and on pace for their largest daily percentage gain since July 17, according to Dow Jones Market Data.
Tickets to the film are being sold for $12, in a nod to how “The Life of a Showgirl” will be Swift’s 12th album. Swift commented on the upcoming release in a social-media post on Friday.
It is hardly surprising that AMC is riding the Taylor Swift wave again – the theater operator enjoyed a significant boost from “The Eras Tour.” In addition to showing the film in its theaters, AMC was the theatrical distributor for the movie. Last year, AMC Chief Executive Adam Aron expressed the company’s “eternal gratitude” to Swift for, as he put it, “being so remarkable.”
In light of the company’s previous success with Swift, Aron repeatedly has discussed AMC’s desire to work with other music artists. Shortly after the release of “The Eras Tour,” AMC started showing the concert film of Beyoncé’s “Renaissance World Tour.”
Last month, AMC reported its biggest jump in revenue in nearly two years on the heels of a rebounding box office. Aron said that the ongoing quarter could see “seasonal but not alarming” softness but also pointed to forthcoming releases later this year, such as Walt Disney Co.’s (DIS) “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” as well as the studio’s “Tron: Ares” and “Zootopia 2.” The CEO also highlighted Universal Pictures’ (CMCSA) “Wicked: For Good” and “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2,” and Paramount Pictures’ (PSKY) “The Running Man.”
