Sumaiya Adam, PhD, University of Pretoria, South Africa
Dr Sumaiya Adam is a Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialist at the University of Pretoria, where she leads the Diabetes-Obstetric Unit at Steve Biko Academic Hospital. Her research is centered on diabetes in pregnancy, with a particular focus on gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and its long-term implications for both mother and child. She has built a multidisciplinary clinical and research program dedicated to improving outcomes for women with pre-existing and pregnancy-associated diabetes, addressing the growing burden of metabolic disease in South Africa and globally.
Prof Adam’s research portfolio spans clinical management, implementation science, and intergenerational health. She has published and collaborated widely on topics such as optimal screening strategies for GDM, digital tools for patient education, biomarkers for early detection, and postpartum interventions to prevent type 2 diabetes. Her work emphasizes integrating evidence-based care with innovative approaches, including AI-assisted dietary tracking and community-level health worker training, to improve maternal and neonatal outcomes.
Beyond her research, Prof Adam is a committed academic leader in health professions education, contributing to curriculum review and competency-based assessment frameworks. She serves on national committees advancing workplace-based assessment and Entrustable Professional Activities, ensuring that postgraduate training aligns with modern clinical realities. Through her combined clinical, research, and educational contributions, Dr Adam is recognized as a leading voice in maternal-fetal medicine and diabetes research in pregnancy. Her work seeks not only to improve current standards of care but also to break the intergenerational cycle of metabolic disease.
Yiming Chen, MBBS, Hangzhou Women’s Hospital, China
Yiming Chen, holds a bachelor’s degree and a graduate degree. He currently serves as a third-level Chief Technician at Hangzhou Women’s Hospital and also acts as a master’s thesis supervisor. Over the past 35 years, he has been actively involved in clinical testing, clinical microbiology testing, and prenatal screening, integrating these responsibilities with scientific research and teaching activities. Chen has previously served as the Director of the Laboratory Department at the Third People’s Hospital of Cangnan County, Wenzhou City, and as the Deputy Director of the Laboratory Department at the Maternal and Child Health Hospital of Yuhang District, Hangzhou City. Currently, he is the laboratory leader at the Prenatal Diagnosis Center of Hangzhou Women’s Hospital, Hangzhou Maternity and Child Health Care Hospital. Chen has been selected as an expert in multiple authoritative expert databases of China, including the Expert Database of the Degree and Graduate Education Development Center under the Ministry of Education, the Gongxin Smart Submission Platform, the CNKI Evaluation Expert Database, the Jiangsu Province Science and Technology Consulting Expert Database, the Zhejiang Province Science and Technology Expert Database, and the Zhejiang Province Medical and Health Project Evaluation Expert Database.
He has authored or co-authored 114 research articles as the first author or corresponding author in reputable academic journals such as Clinica Chimica Acta, EPMA Journal, and Epidemiology and Infection, among which 33 are indexed by SCI with a cumulative impact factor of 96.26. In 2024, he was recognized as a TOP 5% highly cited scholar by CNKI and has participated in the peer review process for 24 SCI-indexed journals, including BMC Pregnancy and Childbirth. He has led 11 provincial, municipal, and departmental research projects and has filed 11 national invention patent applications, three of which have already been granted. Since 2020, Chen has supervised 15 postgraduate students specializing in clinical laboratory diagnostics, seven of whom have successfully completed their studies.
Amir Naeh, MD, Hillel Yaffe Medical Center, Isreal
Dr Amir Naeh is a staff Perinatologist at the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Unit of Hillel Yaffe Medical Center in Hadera, Isreal. He specializes in the care of high-risk pregnancies and is deeply involved in both advanced clinical practice and academic research in maternal-fetal medicine.
Dr Naeh received his medical degree from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Hillel Yaffe Medical Center. He further advanced his expertise with a clinical fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, Canada. In addition to his clinical work, Dr Naeh is actively engaged in research, with a focus on gestational diabetes, fetal growth restriction, and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.
