“All of these bots are to blame for snatching up tickets to concerts – just so they can be resold on the secondary market at two or three or 10 times face value,” Murray said. “The industry does need to address this issue of bots.”

As the ticketing industry navigates a changing regulatory landscape, IPOs and pricing models powered by increasingly sophisticated technology, fans who just see the inflated price of a ticket feel left in the dark.

“Dynamic pricing brings prices up and it brings them down,” Budnick said. “It is true that tickets do eventually, if they’re not sold out, they do come down through this model closer to the show. But I think more often, in terms of how fans receive it, how they’re viewing it, they just see ticket prices getting higher and higher at the outset, and that’s frustrating.”
