Three days of competition at the 2025 ISU Skate to Milano Figure Skating Qualifier wrapped up with a bang as the final Olympic quotas in men’s singles were decided.
The battle in the final group was fierce, but none could overtake short program leader Petr Gumennik. Already ahead by 8.83 points after the short program, the neutral athlete heaped on another 169.02 in his “Onegin” free skate for a winning total of 262.82.
The effort earned Gumennik an individual quota to the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Games.
Republic of Korea, Mexico, Ukraine and Chinese Taipei secured the other four figure skating quotas available in the men’s singles class.
Youth Olympic Games champion Kim Hyungyeom jumped from fourth place after the short program to second with a stellar free skate that took his total to 228.60 points.
Donovan Carrillo finished third, using the cushion from the short program to make up for some stumbles in the free. He earned a total of 222.36 points and now looks on track to go to his second Olympic Games.
Like Kim, Ukraine’s Kyrylo Marsak was another skater who made gains in the free skate. He was below the quota cut-off at the start of the evening, but finished fourth overall with 217.57 points.
Li Yu-Hsiang obtained the last Olympic quota for Chinese Taipei after finishing fifth with 216.98 points.
