Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone and the United States women cruised to victory in the 4x400m in a meet record of 3:16.61 at the World Athletics Championships on Sunday (21 September).
Jamaica came home a distant second in a season-best 3:19.25. The Netherlands took bronze (3:20.18), also a season best for them.
Despite the rain-slick surface, the US team including Isabella Whittaker, Lynna Irby-Jackson and Aaliyah Butler won comfortably, with 400m champion McLaughlin-Levrone as anchor.
In truth, the race was all but decided before before McLaughlin-Levrone took the baton, as the first trio had already opened up a lead of almost two seconds. It never came down to a showdown between her and Dutch anchor Femke Bol.
