Dark Souls Meets Baldur’s Gate In New RPG You Can Try Free Now

If you’re a fan of Dark Souls and Baldur’s Gate, then you’re going to want to check out this new RPG that you can try for free right now.

Despite being two different RPGs, neither is any less iconic and beloved by its respective community. However, each offers challenging gameplay, player choice, immersive stories and NPCs that you will love and hate.

Out of the two series, Baldur’s Gate is the more old-school, inspired by the legendary tabletop RPG, Dungeons & Dragons.

The first games in the series were developed by the Mass Effect studio, BioWare. However, when Baldur’s Gate III arrived in 2023 from Larian Studios, it arguably became the best entry in the series.

“In a year groaning under the weight of so many exemplary games, it is frankly astounding to me how much taller Baldur’s Gate 3 looms over the rest of the pack,” said GAMINGbible’s Ewan in his review. “I’m not sure we’ll ever see anything quite like it again.”

As for Dark Souls, the formula created by series developers FromSoftware is so good that it’s spawned its own sub-genre known as “soulslike” or “soulsborne”.

FromSoftware is a studio known for putting out bangers, not just with Dark Souls but also the likes of Elden Ring, Armored Core, Bloodborne, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and more.

So, if we hear of a game that has some Dark Souls and old-school Baldur’s Gate inspiration, you can bet that it will pique our interest. One such game is developed and published by the indie team at WOLCEN Studio called Gods, Death & Reapers.

“An innovative ExtrAction RPG set in an afterlife where mythology is real and the gods are dead. Fight through PvPvE, Story Mode, or Co-Op PvE to claim valuable loot and bring balance to the shattered realms,” reads the synopsis for Gods, Death & Reapers.

What’s more, with an ominous slogan like “Death welcomes all”, that alone suggests that it’s a game that FromSoftware fans will likely appreciate.

The only snag is that we’re going to have to be patient for the release of Gods, Death & Reapers, because it has a tentative release window of 2026.

However, you may be pleased to know that it does have a free playable demo that you can download right now from its dedicated Steam store page.

It may also be worth wishlisting Gods, Death & Reapers on Steam to be notified of when it’s ready to launch next year (assuming it suffers no delay).
