God of War Gamers Losing it Over New Leak

At the time of writing, very little is known about the next God of War game. The 2018 reboot and its sequel, God of War Ragnarok, did so much to rejuvenate the series that fans are waiting expectantly for news on what we might be doing next.

With little official word from the developer we’ve been forced to scrap around for small tidbits via leaks and rumours.

Over on the Insider Gaming YouTube channel, editor-in-chief Tom Henderson shared a piece of information that he had been provided which detailed the weapon Kratos will be using in the next God of War game. Specifically it’s said to be of Egyptian design which could hint at the next possible location for our adventures.

Though the series was originally rooted in the mythology of ancient Greece, that was vastly expanded once the reboots came around and now includes the pantheon of Norse gods. As such it would be little surprise to see us head to ancient Egypt next time out to see what Osiris, Ra et Al. have in store for us.

Reaction to the news over on Reddit was predictably excitable, with many sharing exactly what they want to see from the next mainline release.

“I hope other pantheons come after Kratos this time. They know what he did in Greece, they know what he did to the Norse Gods. They’re not going to let it happen to them. I would hope we have a final trilogy of other Gods trying to kill Kratos (with the goal being to eradicate his existence, not just sending him to an underworld). How would he respond to that? That would be awesome,” one said.

Another added that it may actually be the gods that come for Kratos this time around, saying, “I imagine that after killing the two monarchs of those lands, the other gods will no longer have patience with Kratos. They did nothing after the death of Zeus because even Mimir said “they deserved it,” but killing Odin was possibly the straw that broke the camel’s back for them.”

Others fear that this next version of Kratos may not live up to the last, at least in terms of the weapons he’s wielding. “I’m not sure if there’s a special Khopesh in Egyptian mythology with unique abilities, but it’s gonna be hard for them to top the Blades of Chaos, Leviathan, and Draupnir with a fancy looking curved sword,” one read.

Whatever Kratos’ next pantheon massacre of choice is, expectations are going to be sky high. Though players had some gripes with the last game, it was still very well received, and Sony Santa Monica Studio won’t want to disappoint the waiting hordes.
