Cayman Motoring Federation expands grassroots activities with second FIA Motorsport-in-a-Box autocross event

The Cayman Motoring Federation (CMF) has successfully hosted its second FIA Motorsport-in-a-Box Autocross event of the year, reinforcing its commitment to accessible, sustainable and affordable motor sport at the grassroots level.

The FIA’s Motorsport-in-a-Box initiative is designed to bring motor sport directly to communities by transforming everyday spaces into safe, temporary autocross circuits. This mirrors the FIA’s global efforts, through initiatives like Affordable Cross Car, to lower barriers to entry, double motor sport participation globally and and promote motor sport as a tool for education, safety and inclusion.

Autocross is a timed motor sport discipline that emphasises car control, precision and driver awareness. Each competitor completed three timed runs, with the best two combined to determine final standings. Awards were presented to the top three finishers in each class, celebrating skill, precision and safe driving.

In line with CMF’s pursuit of FIA 1-Star Environmental Accreditation, the event integrated a range of sustainable practices. These included:

  • Fully digital registration, waivers, and payments to eliminate paper waste
  • A no single-use plastics policy at the venue
  • Partnership with Foster’s, a local leader in sustainability through composting, solar energy, and food donation programs
  • Collaboration with Refuel Cayman, which provided $25 fuel certificates to promote the use of cleaner, more sustainable fuel options

Jane Scaletta, President of the Cayman Motoring Federation, said:

“Autocross is not just about competition, it’s about teaching drivers the importance of car control, safety, and responsibility on the road. Through the FIA’s Motorsport-in-a-Box programme, we are opening the door for Caymanians of all ages to experience motor sport in a safe and structured way.

“This initiative makes grassroots racing more accessible by bringing the track to the community, more sustainable through our FIA 1-Star environmental practices, and more impactful by giving drivers real skills that carry over into everyday driving.”

By aligning with FIA’s global vision, the Cayman Motoring Federation continues to build a strong, safe and sustainable foundation for the future of motorsport in the Cayman Islands.
