A palace source has addressed speculation about potential friction between King Charles and Prince William, in the wake of Prince Harry’s recent UK visit where he reconnected with his father.
According to the Daily Mail, concerns have emerged that members of “Team Harry” might exploit the Duke’s latest meeting with his father to “perhaps sinisterly, drive a wedge between the King and his elder son and heir.”
A royal insider told the publication:”These syrupy briefings from supposed Sussex sources are precisely why the King and Royal family are so hesitant to embark on any road to rapprochement. If the intention is to encourage a rebuilding of trust and relationships, they serve the precise opposite effect.”
The royal insider added: “As last week’s State Visit clearly demonstrated, the power and impact of the modern monarchy lies in the unshakeable bond between The King and the Prince of Wales, supported by other working members of the family.”
The provocative allegations surfaced in the Mail on Sunday, which revealed that “high-level talks are underway to gradually bring King Charles and Prince Harry together in a public show of unity for the first time in at least six years.”
Harry traveled to the UK earlier this month for the WellChild Awards, squeezing in a visit with King Charles at Clarence House between his official duties, marking their first face-to-face encounter in over a year.
He last saw his father in February 2024, shortly after it was announced that Charles was undergoing treatment for an unspecified form of cancer. Last May, Harry told the BBC his father wasn’t speaking to him because of his security battles but that “it would be nice to reconcile.”
