DJI has announced the new Osmo Nano action camera. The Nano is an ultra-compact wearable camera designed to be mounted anywhere.
The Osmo Nano has a two-part design that consists of the tiny main camera body and a detachable Multifunctional Vision Dock that houses the display and other electronics. The main camera weighs only 52g while the dock is another 72g. The camera is waterproof up to 10m but the dock is only IPX4 rated and cannot be taken underwater.
The Osmo Nano features a new 1/1.3″-type CMOS sensor with a resolution of 6880×5160 and 13.5 stops of dynamic range. It has a field of view of 143° and a minimum focus distance of 35cm. The camera can record 4K video up to 60fps in standard mode and 120fps in slow-motion mode. Videos can be recorded in 10-bit and D-Log M for more flexible color grading in post. You also get DJI’s RockSteady 3.0 or HorizonBalancing electronic stabilization features. You can also capture photos up to 35MP in resolution.
The main camera body has built-in storage and battery. You can get either 64GB or 128GB of internal space and the dock supports microSD expansion up to 1TB. There’s also a 520mAh battery on the camera and a 1300mAh battery on the dock. The camera can record up to 90 minutes of 1080p 24fps video but up to 200 minutes when attached to the dock and the display turned off. The camera can only be charged when attached to the dock and it takes about 20 minutes to reach 80%.
Speaking of the display, you get a 1.96-inch, 314×556 resolution OLED touchscreen on the dock with a peak brightness of 800 nits. The display can be used for monitoring while the camera is attached but also wirelessly with the camera module separated.
For such a compact camera, accessories are key to be able to mount it anywhere, and the Osmo Nano does not disappoint. You can get a Magnetic Hat Clip to attach it to the brim of your cap, a Magnetic Lanyard for hanging the camera around your neck or attach to your clothes, a Magnetic Headband to wear it around your head, and a Magnetic Chest Strap to wear it around your chest. There’s also a Dual-Direction Magnetic Ball-Joint Adapter Mount for attaching the camera to the outside or inside of your car, a Dual-Direction Foldable Adapter Mount for attaching the camera to most existing action camera accessories, and a Protective Case. DJI also offers an ND Filter Set and a Nano Glass Lens Cover.
The Osmo Nano is priced at €279 for the 64GB model, which includes the camera, Osmo Nano Multifunctional Vision Dock, Osmo Nano Magnetic Hat Clip, Osmo Nano Magnetic Lanyard, Osmo Nano Protective Case, USB-C to USB-C PD Cable (USB 3.1), and Osmo Nano Dual-Direction Magnetic Ball-Joint Adapter Mount. The 128GB model with the same kit is priced at €309. The camera will not be available in the US at launch.
