LHC approves bail in Dr. Shahid Siddique murder case

The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday approved the bail of Shahid Nadeem, an accused in the murder case of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Dr. Shahid Siddique.

Justice Amjad Rafiq issued a two-page written order, noting that the case required further inquiry. The court granted bail against surety bonds worth Rs. 500,000.

During proceedings, the complainant’s counsel opposed the bail plea, arguing that Nadeem had a prior criminal record and had allegedly attacked Dr. Siddique seven months before the killing. The defence, however, maintained that Nadeem was not accused of firing at the deceased.

It may be recalled that in August 2024, Dr. Siddique’s son, Muhammad Qayyum, confessed to arranging his father’s murder over a personal dispute. Police said Qayyum struck a Rs. 40 million deal with hired shooters. All suspects, including the shooters, were arrested and the murder weapon recovered.

Dr. Shahid Siddique was gunned down in Lahore on August 2, 2024.
