Over the past years, the EU has built one of the most comprehensive hydrogen policy environments in the world. The bold target of 20 million tons of renewable hydrogen use by 2030 set out in the REPowerEU plan lays the foundation for a wide-ranging framework to support the uptake of renewable hydrogen to help decarbonize the EU. By 2050, renewable hydrogen is expected to cover around 10% of the EU’s energy needs, significantly decarbonizing energy intensive industrial processes and the transport sector.
