Users play more titles on Xbox in an average month compared to other platforms

Gamers play a higher number of titles on Xbox in an average month compared to PlayStation or Steam, new data has found.

This is according to Ampere Games Analytics, which found that in August 2025 Xbox users played an average of 5.7 different titles.

In comparison, users on Steam played an average of 4.5 games while those on Playstation played an average of 3.7 – 38% lower than on Xbox.

Ampere Analysis suggested that Game Pass “is a strong driver behind the high game consumption” on Xbox, despite there being fewer titles available compared to PlayStation Plus Premium.

As of August 2025, there were more than 500 games available for subscribers on Game Pass, while there were just under 1,000 games on PS Plus.

The data firm found that Game Pass subscribers were “far more active” across titles compared to PS Plus, and that on average “PlayStation users play two fewer games each month compared to Xbox users.”

Looking at Steam, Ampere found that users play one game fewer than Xbox users in an average month.

It said this “highlights the cost barrier” for accessing and playing games, as Game Pass encourages “gamers to play many more titles than they would ordinarily” instead of purchasing one game.

However, Ampere did also note that Xbox users spend less time in-game than on other platforms.

In August, which it described as a “particularly unequal month”, Xbox gamers played for 7.7 hours compared to 12.7 and 11.9 hours on PlayStation and Steam respectively.

The data firm concluded that “despite Xbox gamers generally spending less time on a greater number of titles, many users are sampling games that they never would have access to under different circumstances.”

Earlier this week, ID@Xbox boss Chris Charla revealed that Xbox had made its “largest investment in Game Pass to date”, and that it remains “focused on delivering the most exciting and diverse catalogue in gaming.”
